Today in the lab, our physics students weren't just measuring; they were mastering the art of balance!

They used the Force Table to physically model how multiple forces (vectors) combine and interact. The mission? To find the one perfect force—the equilibrant—needed to cancel out all the others, achieving equilibrium. When that center ring floats freely, you've cracked the code!

This concept is the fundamental principle behind engineering and architecture. Think about how suspension bridges, cranes, or aircraft wings stay stable—it all comes down to balancing those competing forces!

Ms. Gerasimovich took her 9th Grade Global History students to The China Institute for a day of art and learning.

At The China Institute, students were treated to a guided tour of their current exhibition, Metamorphisis: Chinese Imagination and Transformation, which highlights works by 28 contemporary artists of Chinese descent, who explore themes of personal, cultural, historical and material metamorphosis in dynamic and innovative ways. Across painting, sculpture, photography, animation and installation art, these works by established and emerging artists of different generations and backgrounds use experimentation to draw on both Eastern and Western art-making practices and materials (chinainstitute.org).

After a guided tour, which also included a mini mediation session led by a certified instructor, students created their own works of art. Students participated in a Chinese ink painting workshop and learned about the history and process of Chinese ink painting. Students had a lot of fun creating their own works of art to take home.

During this trip, students were able to see the intersection between what they had learned in class about Ancient China and Chinese culture today. The artwork represented various historical themes and ideas from class, represented in modern ways. Students were able to learn more about how art can connect past and present, as well as have a hands on experience using an ancient art form to make a modern masterpiece of their own!
