In marine science students dissected a squid for as part of the marine invertebrate unit! Students located the gills, heart, esophagus, and even wrote their initials using ink from the ink sac!

In chemistry class we calculated the amount of heat energy (calories) in a chip! By burning the chip students were able to see the amount of heat energy transferred to the water -- and then compare it to what was labeled on the packaging!

Let's take them dancing skills from Tiktok over to Latin Groove!!!!!

Desi Dance joined the Black History Month celebration @ HSFI. They danced to the tune of "Run It Up" by Hanumankind that highlight themes of perseverance, ambition, and rising above obstacles—ideas that resonate strongly with the spirit of Black History Month. The song’s focus on success despite adversity reflects the historical journey of Black communities who have continually pushed forward in the face of systemic barriers.
On Bring Your Parent To School Day:
Today in Ms. De La Rosa's Anatomy and Physiology class, parents and students were engaged in building Epithelial Tissue models with clay.

In Ms. Goldstein’s and Ms. Klepacki’s Algebra 1 classes at HSFI, students stepped into the role of math doctors. Each randomly assigned group was given a different visual representation of a sequence posted vertically around the room as a “patient” in need of diagnosis.
Students analyzed each pattern to determine whether it was arithmetic with a constant difference or geometric with a constant ratio. After identifying the type of sequence, they wrote the explicit formula and used it to calculate the 5th and 20th terms. This required students to move beyond simple pattern recognition and translate visual growth into precise algebraic language.
The vertical learning structure promoted collaboration, accountability, and academic discourse. Students stood together at the board, debated their reasoning, justified whether the pattern showed repeated addition or multiplication, and checked one another’s work before finalizing their diagnosis.
By connecting visual models to explicit formulas and long-term predictions, students strengthened the exact skills needed for success on the Algebra Regents. This Regents-ready activity built conceptual understanding while reinforcing procedural fluency and confidence.

We loved welcoming our parents into our classes today! Our Senior Textile Science class showcased their knowledge of the garment lifecycle through a Fast Fashion board game.
It was amazing to see students and parents learning about the hidden costs of their closets while having fun!

Last night, our amazing Math, Science, and Guidance staff headed to 30 Rock for a special "Teachers Only" taping of @fallontonight! 🗽
The highlight? An interview with Ryan Gosling about his new film #ProjectHail Mary—where he plays a middle-school science teacher saving the world!
The surprises didn't stop there. Jimmy Fallon treated the entire audience to an exclusive, free preview screening of the movie right after the show.
A huge thank you to The Tonight Show for such a fun night of recognition for our hard-working educators!
