HSFI participate at the Global Citizens Model United Nations Conference 🗽🌍
From committee sessions to the General Assembly floor, our students are proudly representing their countries at GCMUN and making their voices heard on global issues.

Recap for Day 1 at GCMUN: a success! 🌍
Students had the opportunity to collaborate with peers from around the world and build meaningful connections. Thank you, Mr. Jimenez and Ms. Vaccaro, for supporting our HSFI students and helping them gain exposure to diverse cultures and new opportunities!

So proud of our students for representing us at GCMUN and bringing home major honors! 🏆
We earned the Best Small Delegation Award (one of only 6 schools recognized), proving that a focused team of 5–10 can compete with delegations of 40+, and 9 of our 15 delegates received Honorable Mention Awards for their outstanding individual performance and impactful contributions in committee.

Physics is a hair-raising experience! ⚡️
Our physics students have been getting "hands-on" with the invisible forces of the universe this week. We’ve been exploring the shocking world of Static Electricity through two key methods: Conduction and Induction.
The Classic Balloon Trick: Using friction to transfer electrons, leaving us with some gravity-defying hairstyles! 🎈💇♂️
The Electroscope Test: Students used metal leaf electroscopes to see how charges can move without even touching (Induction) vs. direct contact (Conduction). 🔍⚡️

The Green Team student sustainability co-coordinator discussed the importance of student action, and students continued outfitting classrooms with recycling lids!
Five classrooms received lids to help facilitate waste sorting in the classroom.

Timing is everything! ⏱️⚖️ Our physics students took a swing at the Simple Pendulum Lab this week to see what truly controls the "beat" of an oscillation.
The big discovery? The period of a pendulum is independent of its mass! Whether the bob was 50g or 200g, the time stayed the same. Our investigators proved that the only variable that truly changes the rhythm is the length of the string.
By timing 10 full swings and calculating the period (T), we confirmed the classic formula: T = 2𝛑√L/g
Swipe to see our students finding their rhythm in the lab! ➡️🧪📐

Our apprentices were panelists speaking on their experience with CareerWise to guidance counselors.
Let’s talk about tension! 🌀⚖️ Our physics students spent the morning diving into Hooke’s Law to see how much stretch a spring can handle.
By adding weights and measuring the change in length , we were able to calculate the unique spring constant for our equipment. It turns out physics is the "force" that holds everything together! 📈

Analyzing a Paystub in Financial Math: Understanding Gross Pay, Deductions, and Net Income
In Mr. Ng and Ms. Goldstein’s Financial Math class, the class worked in small groups to analyze sample pay stubs using real-world financial data. Students collaborated to identify key components of the paystub, including gross pay, net pay, mandatory deductions such as taxes, and voluntary deductions like retirement contributions or benefits.
As they worked, students calculated the percentage of income allocated to each deduction category and discussed how different deductions impact take-home pay. Groups explained their reasoning to one another, checked calculations for accuracy, and connected percentage concepts to real-life financial decision-making.
This activity strengthened students’ financial literacy while reinforcing skills in percentages, problem solving, and mathematical reasoning. By working collaboratively, students practiced communication, accountability, and teamwork while gaining a deeper understanding of how earnings and deductions function in everyday life.

Yoga is like a mini adventure for your body and mind! It helps you stretch, strengthens your body, and helps you find your balance while also giving your brain a chance to relax and rest. It's calming breaths, being able to focus, and helping reduce stress through different activities. Best of all, you will feel good while also connecting with other students. If Yoga it's for you, please join our club on Wednesday, in room 743, from 4pm-5pm.
😊🧶All smiles, one stitch at a time and a relaxing way to end the day! Knitting club meets on Wednesday 4-5 PM.
