THESE KIDS HAVE PASSION!! A POINT OF PRIDE AT HSFI IS OUR FIRE FOR LEARNING, COMPETING AND EXPLORING OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM. The third floor gym was buzzing, dancing, cheering and full of shout outs all afternoon as student led clubs shared their interests, values and ideas. Each grade went shopping around table by table to seek out different activities they can participate in during the fall semester.
"We are excited to have over 60 Clubs this fall, led by over 150 student volunteers and supporting faculty members," said Marcol Rodriguez, Assistant Principal of Climate and Culture. "Not every school has the opportunity to have this many clubs active. A number of the clubs are niche."
Among them:
The SUMMER STUDY ABROAD program at HSFI is the only Summer Study Abroad program offered by any New York City Public High School. It's been held in Florence, Italy for the past 15 years under the direction of the legendary Coach Sostre-King. This year the program will be held in Marseilles, France. Students get college credits. Juniors and Seniors are welcome. Bienvenue! 🇫🇷
HSFI is excited to have four collaborative partners hosting clubs:
STOKED is a skateboarding and snowboarding club that includes snowboarding trips in the spring. Students make their own skateboards from scratch -- they spray paint them, design them, learn the techniques, and make new friends from other schools who are part of the team.
HUDSON RIVER COMMUNITY SAILING teaches students how to build a sailboat, then in the spring they go out to set sail on the water in the boat they made.
ALL THE WORLD COLLECTIVE hosts HSFI's theater club. In the fall students learn about what goes on backstage as well as the basics of scene production, and in the spring it will culminate in a student written, student centered play or musical or play.
HUDSON GUILD is offering a podcasting and music production club.
Follow along for more stories throughout the day as we celebrate this very special event at HSFI!
