Students in Ms. Adamczyk, Mx. Dixon, and Ms. Rague’s 10th grade classes recently welcomed writers from the LAMDA Literary LGBTQ Writers in Schools program for an engaging author talk. The speakers explored how writing and identity are deeply connected, emphasizing that even in fiction, authors bring their own experiences, perspectives, and truths into their work.

Through personal stories and examples, the writers showed that fiction is not an escape from reality but a way to better understand it. They explained how creating characters can give writers the freedom to express parts of themselves that might otherwise feel difficult to share, making their stories more authentic and meaningful.

The visit encouraged students to reflect on their own identities as writers and recognize the value of their unique voices. It also highlighted the importance of representation, leaving students with a stronger understanding that powerful storytelling comes from embracing who you are.
