Last night, HSFIs very own Math, Science, and Guidance departments headed to 30 Rockefeller Center for a once-in-a-lifetime experience: a live taping of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
It wasn’t just any taping, though. The energy in the studio was electric because the entire audience was composed strictly of teachers and school staff—a special tribute to the hard work educators do every day.
The highlight of the night came when Jimmy Fallon welcomed Hollywood superstar Ryan Gosling to the stage. Gosling was there to discuss his highly anticipated new film, Project Hail Mary, based on the best-selling sci-fi novel by Andy Weir.
For our Science and Math teachers, the guest couldn't have been more perfect. In the story, Gosling plays a middle-school science teacher who must use his knowledge of physics and mathematics to save humanity from an interstellar threat. Our staff sat front-row as Gosling shared behind-the-scenes stories about bringing the classroom hero to the big screen.
The surprises didn't end when the cameras stopped rolling. In a generous "Teacher Appreciation" moment, Jimmy Fallon announced that the entire audience was invited to a free, exclusive preview screening of the movie immediately following the show. Our staff got to see the interstellar action unfold on the big screen before the rest of the world!
"Seeing a science teacher portrayed as a galactic hero by Ryan Gosling was definitely a win for the department!" joked one of our participating science teachers. "And getting to see the full story play out right after the interview made the night truly unforgettable."
Between the comedy sketches, the music of The Roots, and the star-studded interview and screening, it was a night of well-deserved relaxation and recognition for our dedicated staff.
