GCMUN

GCMUN (Global Citizens Model United Nations) is an elite international conference held in NYC where thousands of middle and high school students from over 100 countries simulate the work of UN ambassadors. This year, students from the High School of Fashion Industries had the opportunity to attend. The experience is widely recognized for its high academic standards and its unique partnership with the United Nations.

First Impressions: A Transformative Introduction to Global Leadership

Students described their first experience at GCMUN as transformative and inspiring. Jayla Diaz shared, “My experience at my first GCMUN conference was an incredible and eye opening experience,” highlighting the impact of being surrounded by “like minded and highly intelligent individuals from all over the world.” Nadja Figueroa reflected that she was able to “learn more about international affairs and strengthen my public speaking skills,” emphasizing both academic and personal growth. Angel Franco Ayala described the trip as “one of the best experiences I’ve ever had,” noting that it left him feeling inspired, proud, and eager to return next year. Together, their reflections underscore the confidence, global awareness, and leadership skills students gained through their first GCMUN experience.

Building Skills for Future Success: Confidence, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking

Students also reflected deeply on the skills and lessons they developed throughout the conference and how those experiences will shape their future success. Alisha Gomes emphasized the importance of collaboration, sharing that working alongside “multiple aspiring delegates and chairs” strengthened her ability to communicate effectively and adapt in high-level academic discussions. Jazmine Gao noted that her experience at the GCMUN conference was both challenging and rewarding, helping her build confidence while navigating complex global issues. Christopher Ramirez explained that the conference taught him to “think quickly and defend my ideas,” highlighting the value of critical thinking and composure under pressure. Similarly, Sofia Martinez shared that she learned to “work with different perspectives and find common ground,” a skill she recognizes as essential for leadership and future professional environments. Collectively, their reflections demonstrate growth in diplomacy, public speaking, collaboration, and strategic thinking—skills that will continue to support their academic journeys and long-term goals.
