In recognition of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM), students at the High School for Innovation (HSFI) participated in an engaging and impactful awareness event aimed at promoting healthy relationships and preventing dating violence. The initiative brought together students, educators, and community partners to foster meaningful conversations around safety, consent, respect, and accountability.

Throughout the event, students took part in a variety of interactive activities designed to encourage self-reflection and empowerment. Participants created personalized tote bags featuring affirmations and messages of support, symbolizing their commitment to healthy relationship values. Students also made personal pledges focused on respect, communication, and boundaries, reinforcing the importance of making thoughtful and informed choices in their relationships.

In addition to hands-on activities, students received informational resources that highlighted warning signs of dating violence, strategies for staying safe, and ways to seek help for themselves or others. These materials served as valuable tools to extend learning beyond the event and support ongoing awareness within the school community.
The event was made possible through a collaborative partnership between the Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP), Teen Choice, and Partnership with Children. By working together, these organizations helped create a supportive and educational space where students felt encouraged to ask questions, share perspectives, and engage in open dialogue about relationship health.

School leaders and staff expressed pride in the students’ enthusiastic participation and thoughtful engagement. “Our students showed up with openness and care,” Ms. Aaliyah Scott, RAPP coordinator and event organizer. “Events like this help build a school culture rooted in respect, empathy, and accountability.”
As Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month continues, HSFI remains committed to empowering students with knowledge, amplifying student voices, and fostering a safe and supportive environment where all young people can thrive. Through education, collaboration, and community care, the school continues to take meaningful steps toward creating a culture of respect for all.
