Ms. Ng is a passionate and committed educator in HSFI’s science department, currently teaching biology, where she pushes students to think deeper about the world around them. She comes from a big family where her mom and cousin are teachers as well which helped her on her journey to become one herself. Inspired by her own science teachers, Ms. Ng developed a curiosity over the question of what life itself is. She got her education at Stony Brook University for her bachelors and masters majoring in biology, evolution and ecology while minoring in marine science. Here she learned more about global issues, what life is, and how we continue life where this knowledge is spread through her teachings in the classroom. She encourages her students to look deeper into our earth since she wants to emphasize that “Millions of tiny cells are trying their hardest to keep the living things alive and we should recognize them. We should recognize all the tiny and big organisms in our world and their role.”
Some hobbies she has are reading, playing videogames, watching anime, and listening to music. One of her favorite genres of music is K-pop so it was a great surprise to her that K-pop is so popular at HSFI. She says “It's always amusing to see my student's surprise when they learn I love listening to K pop and watching anime as well!”
As a big animal lover Ms. Ng’s favorite places to visit are the American Museum of Natural History, and the Bronx Zoo where she always gets to learn something new and gain tons of knowledge. One of her favorite exhibits from the museum is the hall of dinosaurs since it outlines their evolution, and the world of birds at the Bronx Zoo for their colorful diversity. Her love for animals extends home where she has her pet corn snake.

Ms. Ng's first time at HSFI was at her middle school graduation which was held in the high school at the time. She remembers being stunned by all the different artwork she saw throughout the halls, specifically the ones with animals intriguing her love towards animals. She connected with this creativity saying “There’s a lot of creativity in science and if you peel back the layers you can find so many different ways to find more than one solution or answer”.
As part of the HSFI community as a teacher Ms. Ng has expressed her love for the community and advocacy throughout the school as well as how involved and creative each student is. It amazed her watching as her freshman students began to integrate and involve themselves within the many clubs and activities throughout the school community. She connects with her students through creating an open and honest environment encouraging curious questions or conversations where she can share her knowledge and experience.
Thank you Ms. Ng for sharing your passion for science and life with the HSFI community and we look forward to seeing all the ways you continue to inspire our students!
