With shorter days, colder weather, and earlier sunsets—many young people begin to feel changes in their mood, energy, and motivation. This is completely normal. The season can bring a natural shift in how students feel from day to day. Some may seem more tired than usual, find it harder to get out of bed, or feel less motivated with schoolwork. Others may have moments where they feel overwhelmed, irritable, or simply “not themselves.” These changes are common during the winter months and can affect anyone, especially teenagers who are juggling school, friendships, and personal responsibilities.
At the High School of Fashion Industries, we know how important emotional well-being is to a student’s success. Our school community comes together—teachers, Guidance Counselors, Social Workers, Peace Teachers, and administrators—to ensure students feel supported and understood. The Peace Office and Wellness Department work hand in hand to respond to concerns, help students navigate challenges, and create a safe environment where every child feels seen and valued. And most importantly, we can help if we know what the issue is. Families and students are always encouraged to reach out early—sometimes a simple conversation can bring clarity, comfort, and meaningful support.
Throughout the winter season, HSFI also helps students build healthy routines that support their overall well-being. Getting enough rest, eating regularly, staying active, and taking small breaks during the day can make a big difference. We encourage students to stay connected, too. HSFI offers a wide variety of clubs, programs, and after-school activities that give students a sense of belonging and joy—two things that help brighten even the longest days of the season.
We also understand that winter brings practical challenges. HSFI is here to help with a range of cold weather supports, including food, warm clothing, and other resources students may need to feel comfortable and confident. Families should never hesitate to speak with a Peace Teacher or Guidance Counselor. No concern is too small, and no student should feel like they must handle challenges alone.
As the season continues, please know that HSFI is committed to supporting your child academically, socially, and emotionally. If you notice shifts in your child’s mood or energy, or if they simply seem like they could use a little extra support, reach out to us. We are here to partner with you, listen, and ensure your child feels understood and cared for every step of the way.
