Ms. Sun grew up in Beijing, China. She achieved her bachelor's in Applied Mathematics at the University of Liverpool, UK, and received her Mathematics Education degree at Columbia University, which was one of her proudest achievements. A fun fact about Ms. Sun is that she first came to the United States when she was in middle school to study in a biology lab in New York. She is sports-oriented and loves playing pickleball and badminton. She loves traveling! Ms. Sun has been to 20 countries. And for the past 2 years, she has been solo traveling to Europe and plans to continue this routine! Ms. Sun is very family and friend oriented; she travels to Michigan and Caltech to visit friends from out of state. One of her hobbies is listening to pop music. Once during class, she asked her students if they wanted to listen to music. She realized that she knew the song, and her students were surprised that she listened to that type of music. She also likes watching TV shows and movies, taking recommendations from students she teaches!

Some of Ms. Sun's passions are to be able to get her students engaged in class. One of her motivations is to see students improve. She loves watching students show initiative and wants to do better. She wanted to provide students with a safe space to grow and push them to chase their dreams. In life, she wants to explore more possibilities and try new things. Possibly getting to know more about the sports department.

She grew up in a school system in China where expectations were stricter, but she always had a close relationship with her teachers. When she studied at Columbia, she was exposed to less strict policies that created a more creative and engaging teaching style and had more cultural differences. She saw an opportunity when he heard that there was a need for math teachers and decided to take a learning aspect from it and experience a new math curriculum. Her academic goals for the year are to help students get a good score on their Regents and make students feel welcomed. Some personal goals are to prepare for next year regarding being more contributing in the HSFI community and participating in the school.

So far, Ms. Sun loves the HSFI Community. She describes it as very welcoming and nice, all while keeping it real. She states that the math department is very supportive and helpful. She also highlights the Assistant Principal, Mr. Kohm, for how nice, supportive, and down-to-earth he is.

Thank you, Ms. Sun, for being an active contributor to HSFI and joining our community. We look forward to seeing what you accomplish!
