In honor of the NYC Marathon, and as a supplement to Ms. Severino's lessons on the Golden Age of Greece, her 9th grade students explored the origins and evolution of the marathon. They read an article from the History Channel website on the race’s ancient roots and modern development, then had the choice to either answer reflective questions about the text or create a comic strip illustrating the key milestones in the marathon’s history.
One of her 9th graders, Glismel Herrera, created this beautiful comic strip that vividly captures how the marathon has evolved over time. Her work not only connects ancient history to a modern global tradition but also makes learning relevant and timely, especially with the NYC Marathon taking place just this past month.
