Learning a new language takes time, patience, and a willingness to practice — over and over again. As the old saying goes, “practice makes perfect.” This fall, our seniors are proving that to be true as they tackle their latest Spanish assignment with determination and enthusiasm, supported every step of the way by Ms. Marin, 12th Grade Guidance Counselor, and Ms. Covington, 12th Grade Social Worker.
While language learning can be challenging, our seniors are taking it in stride — rehearsing dialogue, refining pronunciation, and even recording multiple takes until they get it just right. What makes this project especially meaningful, however, is the collaboration and encouragement happening outside of the traditional classroom.
Recognizing that confidence is key to mastering a new language, our 12th Grade Wellness Team has been going above and beyond to support students as they prepare. Together, they’ve turned hallways, offices, and after-school sessions into impromptu rehearsal spaces — cheering students on, helping them practice lines, and ensuring that everyone feels ready to shine.
“It’s not just about speaking Spanish correctly — it’s about believing you can,” said Ms. Marin. “We want our students to know that we’re here for them in every way, whether that’s helping them with pronunciation or simply building their confidence.”
Ms. Covington echoed that sentiment, emphasizing how important it is for students to feel supported academically and emotionally.
“When students know they have adults who care about their success, they’re more willing to take risks and try new things,” she shared. “Watching them grow more comfortable speaking another language has been incredibly rewarding.”
The Spanish project has quickly become a favorite among seniors — blending language skills with creativity, teamwork, and self-expression. Students have been practicing conversational Spanish, recording dialogues, and learning how to communicate naturally and confidently. What began as a classroom task has evolved into a powerful learning experience that combines academics, mentorship, and personal growth.
“At first, I was nervous about recording myself speaking Spanish,” said, a senior. “But Ms. Marin and Ms. Covington helped me practice until I felt ready. They made learning fun and made me believe I could actually do it.”
This collaborative effort reflects the school’s broader commitment to holistic student support — where educators, counselors, and social workers work hand in hand to ensure every student has the tools and encouragement they need to succeed.
As the seniors continue to build their language skills, their teachers and mentors are confident that the lessons learned extend far beyond the Spanish classroom. They’re learning resilience, persistence, and the power of teamwork — all essential skills for life after graduation.
With each new phrase and every practiced line, our seniors are not only improving their Spanish — they’re finding their voices.
¡Excelente trabajo, seniors! Here’s to continued growth, confidence, and the courage to keep practicing — one word at a time.
