On Tuesday, October 14, we had the privilege of welcoming back one of our very own Ava-Marie Warden, a proud 2006 graduate of the High School of Fashion Industries and a Stage IV breast cancer thriver.

1Ava-Marie captivated more than 200 students with her honesty, courage, and humor as she shared her personal journey through diagnosis, treatment, and healing. She emphasized the importance of early detection and self-advocacy, reminding everyone that you are the first expert on your own body.
1During her sessions, Ava-Marie went beyond storytelling she demonstrated how to perform a self-exam, even using her knee to show how to detect changes. Students were filled with curiosity, asking insightful questions about symptoms, prevention, and how to support loved ones facing cancer.

In a fun and interactive twist, she invited students to role-play as doctors and patients, giving them a chance to practice speaking up for themselves and communicating with confidence in medical settings. The laughter, energy, and powerful discussions that followed made the session both educational and unforgettable.

Before ending her visit, Ava-Marie took a heartfelt walk down memory lane reuniting with her former teachers who were overjoyed to see how far she’s come. In true HSFI fashion, she couldn’t leave without stepping onto the runway one more time, gracing the stage before heading out for the day.

Her return to HSFI was more than just a homecoming- it was a celebration of strength, resilience, and hope. Ava-Marie reminded us all that awareness saves lives and that self-love, courage, and advocacy are forms of power.

💖 Thank you, Ava-Marie, for inspiring over students and reminding us that beauty begins with bravery.
