Active playing in P.E. classes

To start off the year, the P.E. department introduced football for the first marking period due to the football season. The unit is being held in the third floor gym and focuses on flag football, a safer version of the sport that still teaches key skills like teamwork, strategy, and coordination. The teachers wanted to match the excitement of the NFL season starting in September, so they moved the unit up in the curriculum to make it more timely and engaging for students.

This change helps students feel more connected to the sport while still learning the basics of the sport. Since football is already popular during this time of year, many students are more excited to participate and try their best. It also gives them the chance to better understand the game especially if they might be watching football at home or with friends. The P.E. Teachers are using this opportunity to build excitement around physical education while teaching important game rules and techniques.

After the football unit, the P.E. department is trying something new, students will get to choose the next sport they want to learn. This gives everyone a voice in their physical education experience and can help increase participation. Whether students prefer basketball, volleyball, or something else, having a choice makes the class more enjoyable and personalized. Overall, the new approach shows that the P.E. department is working hard to make physical education more fun, relevant, and student-centered.
