COVID19

Response page

Updated 09/09/2020

Welcome to our COVID response page. Below you’ll find all the critical information about how Fashion Industries High School is changing the way we operate to reduce the risk of COVID infection. We are doing everything we can to make sure that our students, staff and families are safe within the HSFI community. Please check back regularly, as we will update the information here as conditions change.

The NYC DOE Return to School 2020 site section also has important information and resources for you. See the Update for Families letter .

Attendance Procedures

In response to COVID-19, the NYC school system created structures to track student
interactions to account for attendance in a remote learning setting. As schools prepare to
transition to a blended learning environment in the fall of 2020, New York State is
requiring that all schools track student attendance for reporting, state aid, and
instructional purposes.

Moving forward, the City must use “attendance” and not “interaction” as a measure of
student engagement and instructional time in remote and in-person learning settings. This
is a return to a more traditional definition and practice of taking attendance, aligned
to New York State Education Law.

During the 20–21 school year, the DOE will track and follow up on the attendance for
every student every day (Monday through Friday), regardless as to whether those
students are engaged in remote or in-person learning.

Lifestyle

Student Devices- Both HSFI chromebooks and DOE Ipads will continue to be distributed to students who are in need of a device. Students on the blended learning schedule should be
directed to bring their device to school along with the charger.

Charging student devices

In order to support students, power strips will be set up in classrooms so students can charge their device as needed. Students must bring their chargers.

Backup devices for students

A small number of devices will be assigned to classrooms just in case a student does not bring their device. These devices will need to stay in the classroom and be used by students only.

WIFI

DOE will be monitoring our WIFI for problems. We have requested a guest account to
give to students who bring in their personal devices to school. Information is forthcoming.
